The American Goldfinches are starting to get their full color as mating season begins. As you may know by summer the males will be deep yellow and the females will be a lighter greenish/yellow color.

The favorite seeds for goldfinches are: Nyjer (thistle), Sunflower Chips, and Black Oil Sunflower. During the summer you will also see them eating sunflower plants and coneflowers.

The goldfinch is one of the birds that is fairly easy to move over to it’s own feeder. Once your mix seed feeder gets busy with all of your backyard wild birds put up a dedicated nyjer/thistle feeder and the goldfinches will migrate to that station.
